BATANG Gilas Pilipinas is banking on height as it sees action in the 2018 Fiba Under-18 Asian Championship in Thailand.
As expected, Kai Sotto and AJ Edu banner the Philippine youth team as Carl Tamayo, Raven Cortez and Geo Chiu joining them in the frontline.
Rome-based guard Dalph Panopio, who stands at 6-foot-1 will also be counted on to backstop the team, together with feisty playmaker Gerry Abadiano of National University.
Completing the roster are San Beda’s Rhayyan Amsali, NU’s Dave Ildefonso and Miguel Oczon, UST’s Bismarck Lina, FEU’s Xyrus Torres, and Chiang Kai Shek’s Joshua Ramirez.
Josh Reyes will call the shots for the squad, with Goldwyn Monteverde, Mike Oliver, Gilbert Lao and John Arenas on his staff.
Batang Gilas battles the top teams in Asia from August 5 to 11 in Nonthaburi, Thailand, with a goal of making the top four and earn a ticket to the 2019 Fiba Under-19 Basketball World Cup.
The Philippines is placed in Group B with China, Lebanon and United Arab Emirates.
