KAI Sotto and company will have their hands full in the 2019 Fiba Under-19 Basketball World Cup in Heraklion, Greece come June.
The Philippines has been slotted in Group C together with host Greece, Argentina, and Russia in the 16-team tournament set from June 29 to July 7.
Sotto, the 17-year-old wunderkind recently named as the UAAP Season 81 juniors MVP, is expected to lead the squad together with Fil-Brit slotman AJ Edu, Rome-based playmaker Dalph Panopio, and NU forward Dave Ildefonso.
Batang Gilas earned the berth to the global showpiece after finishing fourth in the 2018 Fiba Under-18 Asian Championship in Thailand last year.
However, the national youth team's future remains in doubt as the squad has yet to name a replacement for Josh Reyes as the team's head coach.
Batang Gilas team manager Andrew Teh remained mum on the situation, though Ateneo head coach and former Gilas Pilipinas bench tactician Tab Baldwin has been rumored to take over the national youth team program.
