AVA Fajardo paced Gilas Pilipinas Women to a 79-40 rout of Hong Kong to begin their bid for promotion to Division A in the 2023 Fiba U16 Women’s Asian Championship in Amman, Jordan on Monday.
Fajardo, younger sister of Gilas women’s Ella Fajardo, had 17 points on 8-of-14 shooting with six boards, three assists, and four steals.

Ryan Nair and Alyssia Palma also breached double figures, with 12 and 10 markers, respectively, for the squad coached by Pat Aquino.
The Gilas girls pulled away in the second period, outscoring their opponents, 20-9, and continued to dominate in the third quarter, 21-8.
It was a wire-to-wire victory for the Philippines, which led by as many as 41 points.
Stingy defense turned to offense for the Filipinas, forcing 34 turnovers which turned into 26 points. They were also keen on sharing the ball with 24 assists to their name.
Tsz Ching Kam led Hong Kong in the losing effort with 14 points.
Gilas women U16 squad return to action Tuesday against the Maldives. The Philippines placed third last year.
