AUSTRALIA flexed its muscles in a 104-66 blowout of Chinese Taipei to start its Fiba World Cup qualifying campaign on Friday night.
The Australians, ranked 11th in the world, hardly broke a sweat as they erected a 27-13 lead after the first quarter on the way to the lopsided win in the foe's home turf in Taiwan.
Jayson Cadee led five Australians who scored in twin digits with 16 points and three assists and one steal in less than 19 minutes.
The Australians thus gained a share of the early Group B lead with Gilas, who survived the Japanese, 77-71, in their own matchup on Friday, with two points apiece.
Gilas hosts Chinese-Taipei while Australia takes on Japan to complete the Group matches in the first window of qualifying for the 2019 World Cup in China.
Gilas takes on the Boomers in the second window in February.
Quincy Davis III paced the Taiwanese with 17 points, five boards, four steals, two assists, and two blocks in 32 minutes in a losing effort.
