AUSTRALIA overcame the gutsy Gilas Pilipinas Women’s team, 15-12, in the semifinals of the 2019 Fiba 3x3 U-18 Asia Cup Saturday in Cyberjaya, Malaysia.
Trailing 11-6 in the last 3:45, Angel Surada and Camille Clarin tried to mount a comeback for the Philippines as they cut the lead down to two, 11-9 with 2:15 left.
The Aussies, however, were just too powerful on the inside as Georgia Amoore and Ruby Porter restored order and gave their side a 14-9 lead with 1:50 to play.
Ella Fajardo responded with a deuce, but a huge bucket by Amoore made it a four-point affair heading into the final minute.
Fajardo scored five points for the Filipinas, who are relegated to the bronze medal match.
Surada added four, while Kristine Cayabyab had two.
Shyla Heal paced Australia with six points in the victory.
The scores:
Australia 15 - Heal 6, Amoore 4, Porter 3, Paea 2.
Philippines 12 - Fajardo 5, Surada 4, Cayabyab 2, Clarin 1.
