PERTH, Western Australia — Gilas Pilipinas will likely be up against a powerhouse Australian Boomers squad headlined by newly naturalized guard Bryce Cotton in their FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers tie on 6 July at RAC Arena.

Cotton is one of the most decorated players in National Basketball League history. He is a six?'time NBL MVP and now officially eligible to represent Australia, instantly becoming one of the biggest threats Gilas will have to contain.

The American-born superstar carved out a legendary career with the Perth Wildcats, where he won three NBL championships (2017, 2019, 2020) and became one of the most beloved figures in Western Australian sport.

Now, the 33-year old guard returns to RAC Arena — the very court where he built his dynasty — but this time wearing the green and gold.

Major boost for Boomers

“Australia has embraced me from Day One, and I’m grateful for the chance to wear the green and gold alongside a great group of guys," Cotton told the NBL website. “I’m excited, motivated, and ready to give everything I have for the country.”

    Tough challenge for Gilas

For Gilas, the assignment becomes significantly more difficult. Cotton’s ability to break down defenses, hit contested shots, and dictate tempo will test the Philippines’ guard rotation and defensive schemes.

The Filipino community in Perth is expected to pack RAC Arena, creating a vibrant atmosphere. However, Cotton’s familiarity with the venue and its energy gives Australia a clear advantage.
