AUSTRALIA dealt Gilas Pilipinas Youth a masterful 82-60 beatdown in the classification phase of the 2019 Fiba Under-19 World Cup on Friday at Heraklion University Sports Hall in Greece.

Samson Froling got the gears running for an 11-0 start and the Aussies never looked back from there, dominating Gilas by shooting an uber-efficient 47-percent clip from the field, including a 10-of-25 from three-point distance.

The young Boomers took as much as 25-point lead, 56-31, on a Kyle Bowen layup at the 4:26 mark of the third frame in a win that was reminiscent of their 77-43 win over Gilas in the 2018 Fiba Under-18 Asian Championship semis last year.

Dave Ildefonso unloaded 13 points and four rebounds to lead the Philippines in the defeat that relegated Gilas Youth to the battle for 13th to 16th places.

It also means the country won't be able to better its 10th-place finish when it joined the age-group tourney for the first and only time back in 1979 in Brazil.

Kai Sotto chimed in a double-double with his 12 points, 12 rebounds to go with three blocks, as Gerry Abadiano shot 3-of-5 from deep to nab 12 points, three assists, and two boards.

Gilas Youth now turns its attention to China, which it will face at 5 p.m. on Saturday.

The Philippines fell to China in their last meeting, 76-57, in the bronze medal match of the 2018 Fiba Under-18 Asian Championship last year in Thailand.

Froling led Australia with 13 points, seven rebounds, four assists, three steals, and two blocks. Kody Statmann added 11 points for the Junior Boomers, who will take on Latvia for a chance to finish at ninth place.
