Australia keeps Japan winless as Boomers pull off another blowout win in World Cup qualifiers

AUSTRALIA sustained its dominance as it walloped Japan, 82-58, to complete a sweep of its games in the first window of the Fiba World Cup qualifiers on Monday night at the Titanium Arena in Adelaide.

Coming off a 104-66 rout of Chinese Taipei, the Boomers saw a tough challenge from the visiting Japanese in the first quarter where the hosts led by just one, before breaking the game wide open in the second quarter to pull away.

Daniel Kickert led the Australians with 22 points on a perfect 4-of-4 clip from downtown, seven rebounds, and three assists in less than 21 minutes, while Mitch Creek added 17 points, nine boards, and two assists.

    Four more players scored in double digits for the Australians, who gained the provisional lead in Group B with four points in two matches.

    The Japanese remained winless after coming off a 77-71 defeat at the hands of Gilas Pilipinas.
