ARWIND Santos insisted he doesn't mind being left out of the Final 12 for Team Pilipinas in the Fiba World Cup qualifier against Kazakhstan, saying he has full faith in the wisdom and plans of national coach Yeng Guiao.
Santos said he didn't feel bad about the decision of Guiao, saying the coaching staff is in the best position to know what’s best for the team in both the Friday game against the Kazakhs and the Dec. 3 rematch with Iran.
Incidentally, Guiao is Santos’ wedding godfather.
“Okay naman. Napaliwanag naman sa amin. Ready lang kami. Lahat naman makakatulong sa team. Siguro shuffle lang, match-up tayo. Pero naniniwala ako sa mangyayari sa desisyon ng coach. Nagtitiwala ako,” said Santos.
Despite the cut, Santos and the other six players not included in the final 12 against Kazakhstan are still in the frame for a call-up for the qualifier against Iran on December 3.
“Meron,” said Santos when asked he has been told that there is still a possibility that he will be called up for the Iran game.
Santos said he wishes San Miguel teammates Alex Cabagnot, Marcio Lassiter and June Mar Fajardo the best as they take on Kazakhstan in the fifth window of the Fiba Basketball World Cup Asian qualifiers.
“Kailangan maka-una tayo sa Kazakhstan. Kaming mga hindi na-lineup, buong pusong susuporta sa kanila,” said Santos. “Basta ako, ang importante manalo. Ako naman, kung sino maganda linalaro, kailangan suportahan natin.”
