ANDY Gemao is yet again at the forefront of the Gilas Pilipinas Youth attack in the FIBA U18 Asia Cup SEABA qualifiers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from July 19 to 21.
The 18-year-old Gemao is joined by Marc Daniel Burgos, Nicolas Drei Lorenzo, John Earl Medina, Wilhelm Lawrence Cabonilas, Charles Francis Esteban, Justin Ellsworth Hunter, Stephen Hans Castillejos, Carl Vincent Manding, Jericho Riley Santos, and Mark Arick Esperanza.
Joaqui Ludovice, fresh from his stint in the FIBA Under-17 Basketball World Cup, is also joining the team.
Only one spot for SEABA (Southeast Asian Basketball Association) is at stake for the FIBA U18 Asia Cup to be held from September 2 to 9 in Amman, Jordan.
Gemao in Gilas once more
Gemao returns to the Philippine national youth team for the first time since the FIBA U16 Asian Championship in Qatar in 2022.
From there, his star rose with a Finals MVP trophy with Letran in NCAA juniors basketball in 2023 followed by a stints playing for Veritas Academy in the US and then champion Fil-Am Nation Select in the 2024 National Basketball Training Center National Finals.
Gilas Youth opens its campaign against Malaysia on Friday, followed by a game against Thailand. The Filipinos then close the tournament with a match against Indonesia.
Gemao and Co., guided by head coach Josh Reyes, underwent a training camp at the Inspire Sports Academy a few days ago.
Up for grabs in the FIBA U18 Asia Cup are spots for the continent in the 2025 FIBA Under-19 Basketball World Cup in Lausanne, Switzerland.
