SAMAHANG Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) assured that naturalized player Andray Blatche is doing fine and in good spirit despite figuring in a car accident on Monday.
SBP president Al Panlilio got in touch with the agent of the 6-foot-11 Blatche, who said the former NBA player wasn't hurt during the incident.
"Upon checking with Andray's agent, Ms Chao Espaldon, it was confirmed that it was just a fender-bender and Andray is perfectly fine," said Panlilio in a statement coursed through his Special Assistant Ryan Gregorio a day after the accident.
Blatche posted a video of the incident's aftermath on his Instagram account, showing two wrecked vehicles which rammed into a street post.
While nothing serious happened to Blatche and his friend, who was with him inside the car, a lot became worried about the condition of the 31-year-old big man.
Panlilio was among those concerned about the condition of Blatche.
"I was alarmed when the accident involving Andray made the rounds in social media," said the SBP chief. "At first, it looked like a major head-on collision."
Following the three-game suspension meted on him by FIBA for figuring in the brawl that marred the game between the Philippines and Australia last July 2, Blatche won't be eligible to play for Team Pilipinas again until the fifth window of the World Cup qualifiers on Dec. 3 when the country hosts Iran.
