IT’S all systems go for Batang Gilas in its preparations for the 2018 FIBA Under-18 Asian Championship.
Fil-Nigerian big man AJ Edu, 18, arrived in the country on Sunday to join the 20-man pool preparing for the continental tournament, his first since donning the tri-color back in the 2017 Fiba 3X3 Under-18 World Cup in China.
The 6-foot-10 slotman will provide the Philippines with a killer twin tower combo in tandem with 7-foot-1 Kai Sotto, who turned heads in the 2018 FIBA Under-17 World Cup with his 16.4-point, 10.6-rebound averages in Argentina.
Also part of the pool are Batang Gilas holdovers Carl Tamayo, Raven Cortez, Gerry Abadiano, RC Calimag, Terrence Fortea, Forthsky Padrigao, Yukien Andrada, Joshua Lazaro, and Geo Chiu.
Rome-based guard Dalph Panopio is also part of the pool together with San Beda’s Rhayyan Amsali, NU’s Sean Ildefonso and Miguel Oczon, UST’s Ramon Marzan, FEU’s Xyrus Torres, Chiang Kai Shek’s Joshua Ramirez, and Xavier’s Nathan Chan.
The tournament set in Nonthaburi in Thailand from August 5 to 11 will have the top four teams earning a ticket to the 2019 Fiba Under-19 Basketball World Cup.
