THE Philippines lost a close game to Spain, 21-16, to even its record in the opening day of the 2016 Fiba 3x3 World Championships in China.
The squad composed of Mac Belo, Karl Dehesa, Glenn Khobuntin and Russell Escoto faced a huge deficit early as the Spaniards raced to an 11-6 lead with over three minutes to go.
But the Filipino cagers mounted a comeback with a 7-1 run to take the lead briefly, 13-12, before No. 11 ranked Spanish side countered with a 9-3 burst to seal the win.
The loss denied the Philippines a second major scalp after bringing down sixth-ranked Romania, 21-19, in a smashing debut.
The Philippines resumes group play on Friday against higher-ranked teams beginning with Hungary, which also sports a 1-1 record, and a winless Poland squad.
