THE Fiba Asia Under-18 Championship has been postponed after Qatar pulled out as host of the event originally scheduled August 19 to 28 in Doha.
In a press statement on Wednesday, Fiba Asia secretary general Hagop Khajirian said they are now pursuing a new host. The Qatari basketball federation did not divulge the reason for the pullout.
"FIBA Asia is in pursuit of a new venue and dates for the said championship, which will be notified very soon.
"The sub-zone qualifying tournaments that were conducted for the 23rd FIBA Asia U18 Championship will however remain valid, and the teams that have qualified will retain their status," said Khajirian in a statement.
The Philippine squad led by Kobe Paras and coached by Jamike Jarin was scheduled to compete in the event.
The son of PBA legend Benjie Paras was expected to return to Manila on August 1 after getting clearance from his school L.A. Cathedral in California.
