FAR Eastern University is confident Kenneth Tuffin can fill in the spot left by Ron Dennison on the defensive end for the Tamaraws.
Tuffin had 11 points on 3 of 5 shooting from beyond the arc as the Tamaraws beat Jose Rizal University, 87-85, on Tuesday in the Filoil Flying V Preseason Cup in San Juan.
More than the offense though, FEU coach Olsen Racela said the team is counting on Tuffin to deliver on defense.
Dennison has finished his college eligibility in the previous UAAP season.
“Now that graduate na si Ron Dennison, we expect KT to fill in that void na iniwan ni Ron,” Racela said. “KT’s number one role is to play defense, whether it is a small guy or a big guhy, we know that he can defend.”
“Of course, it’s a bonus that he can spread the floor for us,” Racela said.
The 6-foot-4 Tuffin averaged 5.4 points and 3.0 rebounds, and shot 11 of 34 from the 30-point line in UAAP Season 80. He made it to the Gilas Pilipinas pool for the 2023 Fiba Basketball World Cup.
“KT is more of a shooter tapos defender. Si Ron lahat kaya niya. Mas shooter lang si KT pero defensively, mas mahaba si KT. ‘Yun ang gusto namin sa kanya. He can use his length,” said Tuffin.
