    Tamaraws keep slate unblemished, hand Lyceum first loss in preseason tourney

    MIKE Tolomia had 22 points as Far Eastern University beat Lyceum, 78-71, on Wednesday to remain unscathed in the Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup at The Arena in San Juan.

    The Tamaraws scored their fourth win and handed the Pirates their first loss in three games in Group B.

    San Beda is also unbeaten team in Group B at 3-0.

    FEU coach Nash Racela said the Tamaraws took advantage of the opportunity to play against a physical team like the Pirates in preparation for the UAAP.

    “Lyceum is a very tough team,” Racela said. “Their physicality is something that we admire and we want to emulate dahil ’yun ang kulang namin.”

    Mark Belo added 12 points while Raymar Jose had a near double-double of nine points and 14 rebounds for the Tamaraws.

    Guy Mbida had 15 points and 12 rebounds, while Rhoel Maconocido finished with 15 points for the Pirates.

    FEU (78) – Tolomia 22, Belo 12, Jose 9, Pogoy 8, Escoto 6, Tamsi 5, Hargrove 4, Inigo 4, Denila 2, Lee Yu 2, Ugsang 2, Delfinado 2, Cruz 0, Padilla 0, Belga 0.

    LPU (71) – Mbida 15, Maconocido 15, Zamora 12, Gabayni 11, Baltazar 6, Bulawan 5, Ko 4, Azores 3, Taladua 0, Lesmoras 0, Evangelista 0, Lacastesantos 0, Soliman 0.

    Quarterscores: 24-16; 43-31; 61-52; 78-71.
