FAR Eastern University beat University of the Philippines in overtime, 56-52, on Thursday to clinch an outright berth in the finals of the 2018 Smart City Hoops 25-under Summer Classic.
The Tamaraws completed a perfect 5-0 mark to gain an automatic berth in the finals for topping the eliminations.
Axel Inigo buried a floater to break a 52-52 tie with 39 seconds left and the Tamaraws were able to secure the lead until the final buzzer.
“I liked the way we grinded it out right from the start. It was a low-scoring game. Everyone chipped in, kahit ‘yung mga hinugot ko sa bench really helped. Their focus and awareness was there all throughout the game,” said FEU coach Olsen Racela.
Kenneth Tuffin had 14 points and eight rebounds, while Wendell Comboy had 10 points for the Tamaraws.
Bright Akhuetue had 10 points and 15 rebounds for the second-seed Maroons, who finished the elimination round with a 4-1 record and will face fifth-ranked Lyceum in a one-game quarterfinal affair.
