TERRENCE Romeo sank a three-pointer with a second remaining in overtime to lift Far Eastern University past Cesafi champion Southwestern University, 79-78, in the Mayor Mike Rama Collegiate Invitational Cup Saturday night at the Cebu Coliseum.

Romeo finished with a team-high 18 points for FEU, which recorded its second win in as many games. SWU fell to 1-1.

Romeo earlier connected on a three-pointer for a 70-all count from the top of the key with 52.2 seconds left. The two squads had several chances but Romeo and Tallo missed on their potential game-winners.

The Tamaraws were down four, 74-78, with 39.9 seconds remaining but took advantage of several miscues by SWU in the endgame.

After Mark Belo narrowed the gap to two with two free-throws, SWU’s African import Landry Sanjo was fouled and sent to the line but missed both shots. Still, SWU gained possession as the ensuing looseball scramble ended up in a jumpball.

However, SWU bungled the inbounds play and gave possession back to FEU with nine seconds remaining. Romeo sprinted upcourt, stepped back and swished a three-pointer over the outstretched arms of SWU’s Adam Mohammed.

SWU guard Mark Jayven Tallo missed at the buzzer.

Mike Tolomia had 16 while Belo and Gryann Mendoza had 15 apiece for FEU.

SWU got 26 from Sanjo and Tallo, who is back in Cebu after a short stint with the La Salle Green Archers, scored 18.

Earlier, University of the Visayas defeated Mapua, 74-69.

Mapua was ahead 69-68 with under a minute left but UV guard John Abad connected on a three-point bomb with 29.4 seconds left to give the Lancers a 71-69 lead.

The Cardinals committed a backcourt violation on their next possession and Chris Perolino hit another three-pointer for UV.

Import Mike Harry led the Green Lancers with 22, while Abad had 19.

Joseph Eriobu had 19 points and Kenneth Ighalo had 15 for Mapua.
