PHILIPPINE Sports Commission (PSC) commissioner Ramon Fernandez issued a stern reminder to amateur athletes that group training is still absolutely prohibited.
The PBA legend turned PSC official issued the warning after hearing about a group of players that include several recruits of the University of Santo Tomas’ (UST) high school basketball team engaging in training sessions in Carcar City, which is located an hour away from Cebu City.
“They are not allowed to do that. Absolutely not,” said Fernandez.

The PSC commissioner vowed to look into the matter especially since if proven, the training sessions are in clear violation of the health protocols set by the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF).
The issue came to light just days after former UAAP juniors MVP CJ Cansino's shock departure from UST opened the lid on an alleged 'training bubble' held by the Tigers in head coach Aldin Ayo's hometown in Sorsogon.
The Philippine Sports Commission as well as an IATF-created body to which the PSC belongs have since started separate probes into the issue.
UST officials were absent from a dialogue called by the PSC on Friday which was attended by Games and Amusement Board (GAB) chairman Baham Mitra and UAAP commissioner Rebo Saguisag.
Under the Joint Administrative Order (JAO) No. 2020-0001, which was formulated by the Department of Health, GAB and the PSC, only professional leagues such as the PBA are allowed to resume training in areas under general community quarantine (GCQ).
However, these group training sessions are restricted to small groups and have to be done under strict health protocols.
