UNDRAFTED Bong Galanza steered Euro-Med to an impressive debut in the Pilipinas Commercial Basketball League Friday night at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
The former University of the East stalwart scattered 23 points in the team’s 89-84 triumph over Supremo Lex.
Galanza, a dead shot swingman, scored 12 of his total output in the fourth period, while veteran big man Jam Cortes added 20 markers for Euro-Med.
The 6-foot-2 Galanza drained two triples at the height of a big fightback by Supremo Lex.
He drained one midway the final period then added another with 2:17 left to give Euro-Med an 83-76 cushion en route to the win.
Supremo Lex, which lost to Sta. Lucia last Wednesday, absorbed its second straight loss.
“May lisensya talaga si Bong sa amin to shoot. That's what I've been telling him. I expect him to lead our team," said coach Yong Garcia.
Tense moment marred the game midway in the final quarter when Raphael Banal hurt his shoulder while trying to stop the fast break play of Cris Bitoon.
The son of former PBA player and coach Joel Banal was taken out of the game and no longer returned to the court.
“Let's pray that it is not that serious,” said Garcia of the injury suffered by Banal.
