Eugene Toba-led Red Lions too strong for USJ-R Jaguars

Jun 28, 2016

BAYUGAN City, Agusan del Sur — San Beda took advantage of a listless showing University of San Jose-Recoletos outing to score a 94-76 win on Monday in the Mayor Kim Lope A. Asis Invitational at the Lope Asis Memorial Gymnasium.

The Red Lions side featuring players from the training pool showed exceptional chemistry, taking control of the match from the get-go until the final buzzer.

San Beda’s 6-foot-9, 20-year old Nigerian reinforcement Eugene Toba punished USJ-R’s interior defense and scored 27 points.

“We won but we were not satisfied with our performance. There were instances where we showed immaturity. We struggled to beat USJ-R’s trapping defense although we’ve been practicing how to deal with that kind of defense. We will try to correct our mistakes in the next games,” said San Beda assistant coach Joph Cleopas.

Also delivering big for San Beda were Jeric Estrada with 17 points, Jeramer Cabanag with 16 and Kenmark Carino with 12.
