EDSON Batiller scored 15 points, hitting big baskets in overtime, to lift University of the East to a 65-62 win over Centro Escolar University on Wednesday in a battle of unbeaten teams in the Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup.

Batiller, recruited from Holy Trinity College, converted UE’s final five points to help the Red Warriors win their fourth consecutive game to stay unscathed in their first Filoil campaign without Roi Sumang.

The Davaoeno shooter converted a triple to break a 60-60 tie before hitting another jumper with 33.5 seconds left in the extra period for the final count.

“He is slowly getting there,” said Derrick Pumaren of his prized find from General Santos City and his first-ever recruit as head coach of UE. “He knows he can score. But he has to play UE basketball and that’s what he is still adjusting to.”

As a team, Pumaren is happy UE is improving.

“Our goal for every game is to improve. We are not just trying to win the ball game. We want to improve every game so when we come to the big one (UAAP), we will be a far better team from where we started,” Pumaren.

Chris Javier scored 13 points, while Bertrand Awana grabbed 10 rebounds for the Red Warriors.
