EMILIO Aguinaldo College quickly recovered from a stunning loss as it frustrated College of St. Benilde, 70-64, on Saturday for its first win in this Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup at The Arena in San Juan.
Coming off an 85-74 defeat at the hands of Cebu side University of San Jose-Recoletos a day before, the Generals wasted little time in getting on the winning track in Group A as they turned back a fellow NCAA team.
EAC trailed after the first quarter before banking on a 25-12 second-period breakaway that turned the tide toward its favor for good.
"I just told them to forget yesterday's game," new Generals coach Andy de Guzman said. "Alam ko naman kalidad at kung paano magtrabaho yung mga players ko."
The Generals, who kept the Blazers winless in two starts, drew a dominant showing from Addum Mbang, the rookie Cameroonian big man who posted 18 points, 17 boards, two blocks, one steal, and one assist.
Sydney Onwubere also chruned out a double-double with 11 points and 10 caroms for EAC, which weathered a late CSB storm.
Jonathan Grey, now the Blazers’ go-to guy with the departure of Mark Romero and Paolo Taha, scored back-to-back layups that put his team within 61-65 inside the last minute but Mbang retaliated with a putback on the other end.
