MULTI-titled Chiang Kai Shek College and Far Eastern University turned back their respective semis opponents to arrange a title showdown in the PCABL (Philippine Chinese Amateur Basketball League) 7thFreego Cup recently at the Phil. Buddhacare Academy gym in Quezon City.
The CKSC Dragons went to Fran Yu and Moh Ascano at crunch time to eke out a thrilling 62-60 win and advance to the finals of the annual pre-season tournament for the first time.
Yu scored seven of the team’s final 10 points, including a tight jumper that turned out to be the push the Dragons needed to finally take the fight out of the Baby Falcons.
He finished with 20 points, while Ascano and JV Galledo chipped in 14 markers each as CKSC booked a second finals appearance since winning the NBTC National finals two months back.
The Baby Tamaraws, meantime, rode on a big third quarter performance to beat Letran, 82-75, in their own semis showdown in the event presented by Freego and backed by Smart Telecom, Freshgear (FG), Jumbo Plastic Linoleum, Colt Commercial, K Tech Sports, Insular Square of Cebu and Cebu Pioneer Auto Supply.
Christian Fajarito knocked down 19 points, including 9 in the payoff period to lead four other FEU players in double figures.
The Baby Tamaraws and the Dragons dispute the title Saturday at 2:45 p.m. while Adamson and Letran clash for third place at 1 p.m.
Fajarito drew significant support from Brandrey Bienes who scattered 7 of his 18 points in the third that enabled them to build a 60-50 lead going into the final 10 minutes of play.
Wendell Comboy and Marvin Lee added 13 points each, while Rob Aquino had 11 markers that underscored FEU’s well-balanced attack.
