Gilas originals Marcus Douthit and Chris Tiu lead the cast of an amateur-laden Philippine team that will compete in the upcoming Seaba qualifier for the 2012 Stankovic Cup this July.
Douthit and Tiu, who were part of the original Gilas squad that represented the country internationally from 2008-2012, will backstop the team composed mainly of players from the NLEX, which recently copped the PBA D-League Foundation Cup title.
Cliff Hodge, Foundation Cup Best Player of the Conference, will join Douthit and Tiu in the line-up alongside fellow Road Warriors Chris Ellis, Garvo Lanete, Emman Monfort, Borgie Hermida, Woody Co and Dave Marcelo.
Gilas 2 head coach Chot Reyes, who made the announcement on his Twitter account @coachot, explained that the team did not tap varsity stars since the tournament to be held July 3 to 7 will run in conflict with the UAAP and the NCAA seasons.
Rounding up the team are Vic Manuel of the Cebuana Lhuillier Gems, the Best Player of the Aspirants Cup Conference earlier this year, and Aldrech Ramos, also a former member of Gilas I who recently saw action for the Philippine Patriots in the Asean Basketball League.
Jong Uichico will call the shots for the team in the SEABA Cup challenge where the champion will face top teams in Asia during the Stankovic Cup set September 14 to 22.
