AS if losing the game was not enough, University of Santo Tomas star Jeric Teng also had the misfortune of losing valuables to thieves on Thursday night.
Teng, the incoming team captain of the Growling Tigers, lost his mobile phone and wallet shortly after the UST Tigers’ heartbreaking 70-69 loss to Ateneo in Game Two of the Philippine Collegiate Champions League Finals at The Arena in San Juan.
The sorry incident took place just as Teng was obliging photo requests from fans just outside the venue.
Jeron Teng, Jeric’s younger brother who plays for De La Salle, confirmed the incident to Spin.ph
“Oo nawalan siya (ng phone and wallet),” said Jeron.
A source close to Jeric said his phone, the latest model from Samsung, and wallet were both inside his pocket when the thieves struck.
“Pickpocket (ang kumuha), nasa bulsa niya eh,” said a friend of the UST mainstay. “Nakapa na lang niya, wala na sa bulsa niya.”
The friend added Jeric was understandably frustrated following the incident since it marked the second time he lost his phone this year, the first one taking place just before the UAAP season started.
Teng finished with 12 points in the loss to the Eagles, which forged a winner-take-all showdown between this year's UAAP Finals protagonists for the PCCL championship.
