DE La Salle-Zobel started its title defense in the 13-Under category with a 40-20 victory over Miriam College Team A in the Milo-sponsored Women’s Basketball League recently at the Fr. Rafael Cortina Gym in Xavier School, San Juan City.
Saint Pedro Poveda College proved too much for Miriam College Team B, 38-17, also in the 13-Under class.
In Group A of the 17-Under Developmental category, Colegio De Sta. Rosa Makati overwhelmed Casimiro Ynares Memorial National High School, 21-3, while New Era High School bested St. Mary’s College 37-18.
In Group B, Assumption Antipolo won, 40-22, against Colegio San Agustin, while St. James Academy blasted Philippine Women’s University, 37-3.
Meanwhile, in 17-Under Competitive Group A action, Southville International School and Colleges beat St. Paul College Pasig, 31-19.
San Beda Alabang beat Saint Pedro Poveda College, 38-29, and St. Bridget School defeated Montessori Integrated School, 58-49, in Group B.
In the 25-Under category, UP Diliman edged defending champion National University 37-35 and Don Bosco Technical College nipped University of Asia & the Pacific 55-51 to lead Group A while in Group B, PWU beat University of Santo Tomas, 67-57, and St. Scholastica’s College Manila overcame UP Los Baños, 51-48.
The WBL this season features 41 participating schools competing in four age categories.
