LA Salle is fielding its Team B for the Philippine Collegiate Champions League, hoping to get a boost for its other campaigns and for the development of players eyeing spots in the Green Archers roster.
The training team that plays tournaments such as Got Skills and Fr. Martin Cup tournaments are getting a tough test in the PCCL against eight of the best team from across the country.
They fell short against Holy Trinity College, 75-69, but head coach Anton Altamirano is pleased with the performance.
The La Salle team has another tough task in the group phase against San Sebastian on Friday and complete their elims schedule against NCAA champion San Beda.
Ateneo, San Beda and Lyceum are in the other group.
“We are happy to be here,” said Altamirano. ”We are in a transition phase.
The La Salle squad had a major change with coach Aldin Ayo’s departure and the Rivero brothers Prince and Ricci taking a leave of absence, and the training squad was sent to play in the PCCL.
”No expectations. Malaking bagay sa kanila na ma-expose sila sa higher level of competition,” said Altamirano.
“We are happy with our performance. Hopefully, in our next two games, maganda ang ipakita nila,” Altamirano said.
