DE La Salle arranged a semifinal match-up with Ateneo following a 91-71 win over Far Eastern University on Tuesday in the Filoil Flying V Preseason Premier Cup.
Ben Mbala again showed his all-around brilliance, finishing with 32 points, 11 rebounds, two steals, and two blocks, while Jeron Teng added 28 points as the Green Archers reached the Final Four of the preseason tournament.
The Green Archers face the Blue Eagles for a finals spot on Friday, 4 p.m., at the Filoil Flying V Centre. La Salle beat Ateneo, 98-66, in their match in the preliminaries.
La Salle set the tone early, posting a 21-11 lead at the end of the first quarter and not even a late run from FEU could sidetrack the Green Archers from taking the victory.
La Salle coach Aldin Ayo said the Green Archers treated the quarterfinal match as just another game.
“Parang ordinaryo lang kasi preseason. May mga adjustment kaming ginawa. ‘Yung magandang nangyari dito, nagkaroon ng adjustment ang FEU sa amin, minsan nabubutas kami, tatatag pa ‘yung depensa namin," Ayo said.
Raymar Jose had 13 points for the Tamaraws, who were able to cut La Salle’s lead to seven in the fourth only to fade away.
Teng, however, left the game late in the fourth after complaining of pain in his left ankle. He was able to walk on his own to the bench but never returned.
