ADAMSON and Far Eastern University debuted in contrasting fashion even as De La Salle-Zobel notched its second straight win to take the early lead in the PCABL (Philippine Chinese Amateur Basketball League) 7thFreego Cup at the Phil. Buddhacare Academy gym in Quezon City.
With Jimboy Pasturan leading a well-balanced attack, the Baby Falcons demolished the University of the Philippines Junior Maroons, 89-69, while the Baby Tamaraws drew big baskets from Brandrey Bienes and Marvin Lee to outlast Letran, 76-73.
The Junior Archers, who beat San Sebastian College-Recoletos, 82-49, in the opener two weeks back, dominated the Junior Warriors right from the opening buzzer to score a runaway 78-51 win – thanks to the inspired game of Noah Webb.
The Baby Falcons had a slim 62-54 lead at the end of the third but Miguel Sasuman scattered 9 of the team’s 27 points in the payoff period to rip the game wide open in the event presented by Freego.
In the other game, reigning UAAP champion National University rebounded from a 69-55 loss to Letran two weeks ago by trouncing University of Santo Tomas, 85-56, in the tournament also sponsored Smart Telecom, Fresh Gear (FG), Jumbo Plastic Linoleum, Colt Commercial, K Tech Sports, Insular Square of Cebu and Cebu Pioneer Auto Supply.
Webb was again impressive, finishing with 19 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the field aside from grabbing 9 rebounds. He got solid support from Brent Paraiso and Martin Romero who chipped in 15 and 12 points, respectively.
Pasturan made half of his six attempts from the three-point area to finish with 14, Gerald Fernandez added 13 while Sasuman and JD Tungcab had 12 markers each.
