CEBU - Derrick Rose has visited the Philippines several times, but his latest trip gave him a different way to experience culture.
In Cebu for an ArenaPlus promotional event, the former NBA MVP immersed himself in Filipino culture, even taking part in a tinikling performance during the Champion's Circle Appreciation Dinner on Tuesday, August 25.
Rose said it was his first time doing a promotional event by the waters, making the Cebu gathering a different experience from his previous visits to the Philippines. Just last April, Rose was in Manila also for ArenaPlus.
Held at Shangri-La Mactan, the evening brought together the organization's VIP members from Cebu, key opinion leaders, and members of the media for an intimate celebration.
Rose was introduced to Filipino traditions throughout the night, with cultural performances forming part of the program. He eventually joined in the festivities himself, trying out the Philippine national dance as guests cheered him on.
For Rose, the experience offered another glimpse into a culture he has grown increasingly familiar with through his visits to the Philippines.
The basketball star also spent time interacting with guests, taking photos and sharing a few words.
"Looking forward to experiencing the people here, and being here is wonderful, getting to work by the beach is unreal, it's. It's been a lot of love knowing the traditional dances, always glad to go to new places and experiencing the love," Rose said.
The Champion's Circle Appreciation Dinner was part of ArenaPlus' VIP Nights, which the brand launched to give its most loyal players exclusive experiences and opportunities to interact with athletes and personalities from the world of sports.
Although unable to attend in person, ArenaPlus Head Ethan William welcomed guests through a pre-recorded message.
"We started VIP Nights last December for one simple reason: to recognize our most valued players and give you something made just for you," said William. "Tonight is our way of saying thank you for being part of ArenaPlus. And of course, we wanted to make it extra special."
The evening featured cultural performances, raffle draws, photo opportunities, and chances for guests to interact with Rose.
For William, taking the event to Cebu was another way of bringing the brand's VIP community together outside the usual online experience.
"So we're bringing you closer to Derrick Rose—not just as an NBA legend, but someone whose story has inspired basketball fans everywhere," he said.
William also said ArenaPlus plans to continue improving its platform, pointing to faster loading and bet processing, a more intuitive interface, and strengthened responsible gaming tools.
