    Ryan Cruz hits go-ahead basket as Dedication nips Passion in NBTC Division 2 All-Star game

    CHERIFER Dedication defeated Cherifer Passion, 91-89, on Friday in the NBTC All-Star Game Division 2 at the Mall of Asia Arena.

    Raphael Dimayuga of De La Salle Lipa had 20 points, three rebounds, and three assists on his way to winning the MVP award of the All-Star Game for participants playing in the Division 2.

    Dedication, coached by NLEX rookie Kiefer Ravena, came up with a come-from-behind win as it overcame a 14-point deficit.

    Dimayuga buried a triple to cut Dedication’s gap to one point before Ryan Cruz of Bacolod Tay Tung High School hit the go-ahead two to give his team a 90-89 lead.

    James Barrera of Bacolod Tay Tung High School split his two free throws on the next possession for Dedication, 91-89, as Harold Alarcon of Tay Tung missed a desperate three on the final play of the game.

    Shawn Algire of St. Benilde International School Calamba and Janwell Famaranco of Hercor College Roxas had 14 points, while James Barrera of Bacolod Tay Tung High School added 10 points and 14 rebounds for Dedication.

    Marc Angcap of University of Luzon Dagupan had 16 points and seven rebounds, while Kevin Barranco of St. Roberts International School Iloilo had 13 points for Cherifer Passion coached by Alaska rookie Jeron Teng.

    Dimayuga, Ian Abila of De La Salle Lipa, Alex Doromal and John Pinero of Assumption Montessori School-Cagayan De Oro, and Barrera were named to the Mythical Five of the All-Star Game.
