THE Games and Amusements Board (GAB) will decide on Monday whether it will allow the staging Mindanao leg of the Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup.
GAB chairman Baham Mitra said they are nearing the completion of their assessment of whether it will reinstate the Mindanao leg of the league, which plans to hold the tournament this month.
“Final assessment meeting and decision to be reached Monday after they conclude their conference on May 8,” said Mitra.
The Mindanao leg of the Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup was suspended by GAB following the controversial game on April 14 between Siquijor and Lapu-Lapu that saw questionable misses by the players.
As part of the sanctions, members of the Siquijor team have been banned for life by the league following the farcical match.
Still, GAB meted a suspension on the Mindanao leg with the regulatory government agency looking deeper into the controversy-filled match.
Chooks-to-Go chief Ronald Mascarinas, whose company is the title sponsor of the Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup, disagreed with GAB’s decision which he described as “not just simply going overboard; it is going berserk.”
Even though the Mindanao leg was suspended, teams have been preparing in hopes of getting a go signal, with the ballclubs even signing players for the coming tournament.
“Line ups and other requirements are now being studied by the pro sports division of GAB for their recommendation to the board,” said Mitra.
