CEBU CITY - Southwestern University ended the first round of the 12th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) men’s basketball tournament with a bang as it shamed University of San Carlos on its home floor, 98-63, on Friday night at the USC gym.

The victory was a great bounce-back for the Cobras following their defeat in the hands of bitter rival University of the Visayas last weekend.

The Cobras took control of the game behind a huge 14-0 run, turning a tight 24-all game into a 38-24 lead with Cameroonians Justin Aboude and Ben Mbala along with lefty hotshot Monbert Arong leading the charge.

Mbala then made the game’s highlight-reel play when he broke USC’s full-court press by driving the length of the court, before delivering an authoritative tomahawk jam that got the crowd up on its feet.

Mbala finished with 31 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, and four blocks while Arong added 21 markers.
