NATIONAL University banked on defense to stun Far Eastern University, 82-77, on Tuesday in the 2019 Filoil Flying V Preseason Cup in San Juan.
Facing a 68-61 deficit entering the fourth quarter, the Bulldogs clamped down on defense and held the Tamaraws to just nine points to earn their first victory in the summer tournament.
Dave Ildefonso bannered NU with 19 points and five rebounds, while Robert Minerva missed had 14 points and eight boards.
John Lloyd Clemente added 10 points, as Senegalese bruiser Issa Gaye scored nine.
The Bulldogs shot 46-percent from the field to negate the Tamaraws' 48-35 rebounding edge.
Alec Stockton led FEU with 15 points and four rebounds, while Wendell Comboy had 13 points, four boards and two assists.
The Tamaraws are winless in two games in Group B.
