BILLY Robles simply won't be denied as he steered Davao Occidental to a 77-66 Game Four victory over San Juan on Monday to force a winner-take-all match in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) Datu Cup National Finals.
The six-foot guard powered the Tigers with a career-best 22 points, 12 coming in the fourth quarter when the visitors made the decisive move that sent the best-of-five finals to a Game Five on Thursday at the Almendras Gym.
Robles also grabbed 18 rebounds and three assists, but he made his biggest impact in a 26-6 finishing kick that enabled the Tigers to vercome a 57-47 deficit with 8:44 remaining at the Filoil Flying V Centre.
"Billy played big. All our plays in the fourth were just give the ball to Billy," said coach Don Dulay.
Joseph Terso added 11 points and three rebounds, none more crucial than his putback with 1:12 left that made it a nine-point lead for the Tigers, 72-63.
All-MPBL First Team member Mark Yee chipped in 14 points and eight boards, as Emman Calo contributed 10 points, five rebounds, two assists, and two steals for the home team.
"You can see my guys fighting the whole game. We had some lapses and we kept on telling those guys to fix those and well be ok. We tightened up on defense. The key there is we executed on both ends of the floor," said Dulay after his side exploded for 32 points in the payoff period.
Orlan Wamar led San Juan with 19 points on a 5-of-8 shooting off the bench, while John Wilson got 17 points and 12 rebounds in the defeat.
