DAVAO Occidental claimed its second straight win in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) Datu Cup, dominating Quezon City, 90-78, on Tuesday at the Pasig Sports Center.
Leo Najorda and Emanuel Calo each had 21 points for the unbeaten Tigers, who went on a 17-3 binge to end the third quarter capped by a Najorda three-pointer to open a 70-62 lead.
Davao Occidental won despite missing the services of Bonbon Custodio due to a back injury. Mark Yee was also reduced to playing only the final minute of the match after bringing the wrong set of uniform to the game.
“Our team is young. Like our first game, we were playing a little nervous. That’s what happened in the first half,” said Davao Occidental coach Don Dulay.
“I told them at halftime to play your game and that’s what they did,” Dulay added.
Jeff Morillo had 15 points for the Capitals, who dropped to 0-2.
