    Sep 7, 2014

    IT's all worth it.

The life of a basketball wife may not be always glam, but for Danica Sotto-Pingris all the sacrifices pay off everytime he sees her husband power forward Marc Pingris making the entire country proud by suiting up for Gilas Pilipinas.

Danica and Marc were away for about a month after the national team left for training last July to prepare for the Fiba World Cup in Spain.

Although the two were reunited during the tournament proper when Mrs. Pingris and  son Mic, 6, and daughter Caela,2, went all the way to Seville and cheer the San Mig Coffee star, Danica said being away and longing your love one is no easy task.

As if any consolation, Danica said it was rewarding to see her husband being part of the Philippine team to win a game in the world championship for the first time after four decades.

“Natutuwa ako talaga pag nakikita ko na meron din pala na magandang bunga as a wife na iniintindi mo 'yung trabaho niya,” the daughter of popular tv host and comedian Vic Sotto to award-winning actress Dina Bonnevie shared to

Danica admitted there are times when Marc had to skip bonding with the family starting since last year’s Fiba-Asia Men’s Championship, although she always tries to understand that being a national player comes first for her husband.

Mrs. Pingris added being away together for a certain period of time is just temporary, but the pride and joy that her husband brings to the nation is priceless especially in the light of Gilas’ morale-boosting 81-79 overtime victory over Senegal to end its campaign in the world championship on a winning note.

“Yun kasi ang iniisip ko, I have to respect his job eh. Pinasok ko ito as wife ng basketball player, so minsan pag may pagtatampo ako sa oras, pero nakikita ko na ganito ang bunga, natutuwa ako.

“Kung ito ba naman ang kapalit, nakakatuwa,” she added.

Despite being together for seven years now and has been regularly watching every games of her husband, Mrs. Pingris still can’t help but be nervous every time Marc falls down on the floor or goes up against bigger opponents as was the case in Fiba World Cup.

“Lagi pa rin akong kinakabahan every game. Every game talaga, hindi pa rin ako nasasanay kahit sa tinatagal-tagal na,” she added.
