AFTER getting its feet wet in the PBA D-League last conference, Zark’s Burger is striving to become a title contender this season following its partnership with NCAA Season 93 runner-up Lyceum.

Zark’s owner Rolandrei Viktor ‘Commie‘ Varona said the company agreed to a tie-up with the Pirates in order to form a competitive team after winning just one game in their league debut in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup.

“‘Yung goal that time was giving chance to other players. Unfortunately, hindi pinalad last conference. This time, tapos na muna tayo sa give chance to others. Now, we want to associate our brand to winning. It’s time to win,” said Varona during the team’s press launch on Thursday at Zark’s Taft Avenue.

LPU coach Topex Robinson said the Pirates’ participation in the D-League will give the team an opportunity to improve following their runner-up finish to San Beda in the NCAA.

“For us kasi, this is really always trying to better ourselves. It just so happened that it is a different playing field. We are going to try to get better dito sa D-League, which is a good opportunity for us as a team, as a school, and as part of Zark’s. The more opportunity for us to really hone our skills, the better,” said Robinson.

Robinson said the D-League stint is not about redemption for the Pirates, who got swept in the finals after an 18-0 run in the eliminations.

“This opportunity will further help them to be known. Same vision as what Sir Commie said. We are very excited. We don’t think about redempion. It’s improvement every time we get an opportunity,” said Robinson.
