WHEN it rains, it pours for Caloy Garcia.
Yeng Guiao’s deputy at Rain or Shine added another team in his coaching resume when he was named the new mentor of the Erase Plantcenta team in the PBA Developmental League.
The appointment came just days after Garcia was also chosen to handle the Letran Knights in the coming 89th season of the NCAA men’s basketball tournament.
Erase Plantcenta team owner Louie Gamboa initiated the coaching change in the hope of enhancing the squad’s sagging campaign in the ongoing Aspirants Cup.
Garcia replaced veteran Aric Del Rosario, a fellow NCAA head coach with the University of Perpetual Help, to allow the multi-titled coach to focus on the Altas’ preparations for the coming season.
“We are happy to welcome coach Caloy Garcia to the Erase family,” said Gamboa in a statement. “We have two games left and we hope we will still be able to win those games and end the conference with a decent finish.”
The Erasers are currently in 10th place in the 11-team field with a 2-6 (win-loss) record. But the team still has a chance of making the quarterfinals should they complete a sweep of their last two matches.
“I’ve known Caloy’s track record as a player and a coach, and I’m sure he will be able to help the team,” Gamboa added.
Garcia is set to take over the coaching job at Letran recently vacated by Louie Alas.
