SOULEMANE Chabi Yo produced a big 30-20 game to keep University of Santo Tomas unscathed in the 2019 PBA D-League, holding off Go for Gold-CSB, 94-82, on Tuesday at Paco Arena in Manila.
The Beninese forward recorded monster numbers of 32 points, 25 rebounds, two assists, two steals, and two blocks as he punctuated the Growling Tigers victory with an emphatic dunk in the final 40 seconds of the game.
Sherwin Concepcion was equally impressive with his 13 points and 19 boards as UST kept its stranglehold of the top spot in the Aspirants Group at 4-0.
Renzo Subido added 12 points on a 3-of-9 shooting from distance to help the cause for the Growling Tigers.
UST rallied from an early 14-2 deficit, with Chabi Yo commanding the rally, eventually taking the 43-35 halftime lead and keeping Go for Gold-CSB at bay en route to another gritty triumph in what was a foul-ridden duel that saw the two teams combine for 66 fouls.
"We started flat, pero buti na lang yung second stringers ko bumawi," said coach Aldin Ayo as the Growling Tigers got a timely boost with their 37 bench points.
Justin Gutang's 29-point, 11-rebound effort went down the drain as the Scratchers suffered their third defeat to drop to 1-3.
