ALLAN Trinidad has been officially installed as the new head coach of PBA D-League side EA Regen Medical Group, replacing Vergel Meneses.
The team said in a statement that Meneses voluntary stepped down “for the best interest of the team” after the Regens suffered back-to-back losses to Boracay Rum and Café France early in the conference.
However, Meneses, currently the head coach of the Jose Rizal University in the NCAA, will stay on as a team consultant, the team owned by former Lubao, Pampanga mayor Dennis Pineda added.
Trinidad actually started handling the squad last week in a 103-92 win over Cagayan Valley that saw Meneses sit at the farthest end of the team’s bench during the course of the match.
After that game, Trinidad, a former interim coach of San Sebastian when Topex Robinson resigned last year, said that Meneses was still the Regens' coach and was merely asked to call the shots as a "pahiyang."
Meneses remained mum on the coaching change.
In Trinidad's first official game as head coach, EA Regen defeated Cebuana Lhuillier, 73-69, on Monday for its second consecutive win and a 3-2 win-loss card.
