TRUTH be told, Thirdy Ravena no longer needs to play in the PBA D-League after representing the country with Gilas Pilipinas in the sixth window of the 2019 Fiba World Cup Asian qualifiers.

But that doesn't mean that the high-flying winger will be happy to just sit on the sidelines for Cignal-Ateneo as he aims to still be of use for the team in their ongoing campaign in the developmental ranks.

That is if he can get his schedule in line.

"Depende pa kasi lahat yun nakabase sa academic calendar ko. I have to make sure na wala akong nasi-skip na class," he shared after making his PBA D-League debut in the Blue Eagles' 112-98 defeat to UST on Thursday.

"Nakalaro ako today because may free cut ako sa class ko ng 2 p.m. Pero kailangan ko pang siguraduhin na walang conflict with my classes."

Ravena only spent 12 minutes on the floor and dropped 10 points and five assists in the losing cause for Cignal-Ateneo as the team looked desperate for answers without head coach Tab Baldwin and Ivorian big man Ange Kouame.

But like the veteran that he is for the blue side, Ravena is taking this misstep in stride and charged the loss to experience.

"It happens. May instances talaga sa games na marami kaming nagagawang mali na hindi namin naaayos throughout the game. But those lessons really come in basketball, and we have to understand na kailangan namin matuto sa mga nangyayari sa amin, whether it's good or bad. Ang importante lang matuto kami," he said.

It's just his first game, though, as Ravena looks to share every lesson he learned with his kuyas in the national team to the Blue Eagles.

"Just being with the team, ang dami kong natutunan sa kanila. And of course, with the games against Qatar and Kazakhstan, mas dumami yung knowledge ko about basketball. So I guess it's the same thing: role playing. It doesn't matter if I score, basta ang importante I make my teammates better," he said. Rusty Magsakay
