Teng's 35 help Icons go out on a bright note

    May 16, 2013

JERIC Teng finished just one point shy of tying the PBA D-League record for most points in a game by an individual to lift Informatics to its first win on its final game in the Foundation Cup with an 81-66 victory over Hog’s Breath Café on Thursday at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.

Teng went on a shooting spree, scoring 35 points that included six three-point baskets to keep the Icons from ending up winless this conference.

The University of Santo Tomas hotshot was just a hair short of matching the record set by now-NLEX cager Byron Villarias, who came up with 36 points in a game while playing for Air21-Jose Rizal University last conference.

Despite beefing up their roster with the likes of Teng, the Icons struggled throughout the season and lost their first 10 games of the season. The team also made a coaching change when Buds Reyes asked Vic Ycasiano to take over the team.

“This game is for coach Buds. It’s a gift for him and to Mark Benitez, who is playing his last year in the D-League,” said Ycasiano.

The current assistant coach of National University said that the team encountered problems with the conditioning of the players.

“I think we were not conditioned to play this season. ’Yung ibang players were not into it so I just tried to condition them to play basketball,” Ycasiano said, without mentioning specific players.

Ycasiano said that the Icons will return next conference. “We will prepare as early as we can,” he said.
