    Tanduay rides third quarter surge to pull away from CEU and earn first win in Foundation Cup

    TANDUAY shifted to high gear in the third period and cruised to a 75-60 win over CEU in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup on Tuesday at the Ynares Center in Pasig.

    The Rhum Masters turned a slim 30-28 edge at the half into a breakaway to bounce back from a loss to Cignal in their conference opener.

    Veterans Lester Alvarez and Adi Santos combined for 13 points in the third period where the Rhum Masters sparked a 16-0 outburst to take a 60-39 buffer.

    Alvarez and Santos topscored for the team with 16 points each.

    Paul Varilla scored 11 points, while Jay-R Taganas added eight markers and 12 rebounds.

    "I got a veteran team and the veterans stepped up today," said Tanduay coach Lawrence Chongson.

    Rod Ebondo paced the Scorpions with 20 points, 14 rebounds, and two blocks.

    JK Casino had 11 markers for the team that absorbed its second straight defeat.

    CEU 60 - Ebondo 20, Casiño 11, Manlangit 8, Wamar 7, Cruz 5, Aquino 4, Uri 3, Guinitaran 2, Jeruta 0, Intic 0, Arim 0, Saber 0, Baconcon 0.

    Quarterscores: 13-12, 30-28, 60-42, 75-60.
