TANDUAY Light coach Lawrence Chongson on Monday savored what he said was a "extra-sweet" victory over MJM M-Builders amid a tug-of-war between the two PBA D-League teams over the rights to Mac Belo.
The controversial coach made no effort to hide the fact that the contract row over Belo, who played for the Far Eastern University-backed M-Builders despite being under contract with Tanduay Light, made the 78-77 victory a lot more special.
“Kung showbiz na sagot, it’s just any other ordinary game," said Chongson. "Pero ‘yung totoo, hindi lang matamis. Parang may lasang kape pa.”
So elated is Chongson that he said he is ready to put the Belo incident behind him, adding he is leaving it up to management to decide on whether to go after Belo for alleged breach of contract.
“I’ll let management decide,” said Chongson. “Coach din ako eh. May 14 na players pa ako na dapat atupagin. Kung ako lang personally, I’ll just deal with the players that are here kesa isipin ko pa ‘yung wala”
“Hindi ko naman asawa si Belo para iyakan siya. Kung ako lang, I’m ready to move on,” said Chongson.
Belo, for his part, explained that he signed a two-year contract with Tanduay Light last season on the condition that he will be allowed to move if FEU forms a tie-up with a D-League team.
