    Tanduay recovers from 20 points down to deal CafeFrance first loss in Foundation Cup

    TANDUAY came back from 20 points down to beat CafeFrance, 84-80, on Thursday in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.

    Gelo Alolino and Adrian Santos came up big in the final period for the Rhum Masters, who upped their mark to 3-1 and handed the Bakers their first loss in four games.

    Tanduay went on a 10-2 binge to close the gap then came up with a 13-3 windup.

    The result left Phoenix (4-0) as the only unbeaten team in the conference.

    “Tapang at lakas ng loob lang,” said Tanduay coach Lawrence Chongson. “Hindi ako satisfied sa laro namin but then, kalaban namin defending champion so kahit ano pa sabihin natin, hindi ko matatanggal sa mga bata ‘yung pagpupursigi nila.”

    “Handa silang magpakamatay para makabawi kami,” Chongson added.

    Alolino had 22 points, six rebounds, and three assists, while Santos added 17 points and nine rebounds, including the go-ahead lay-up with 1:21 left in the fourth to give Tanduay an 82-80 lead.

    Celda added 12 points including six in the fourth, combining with Alolino, Santos, and Jeff Javillonar for 27 of Tanduay’s 34 points in the final period.

    Carl Bryan Cruz, Samboy de Leon, and Rodrigue Ebondo had 15 points each for the Bakers, who failed to hold on after taking a 47-27 lead in the second period.

    CafeFrance 80 — Cruz 15, De Leon 15, Ebondo 15, Zamar10, Jeruta 8, Manlangit 8, Casino 6, Opiso 2, Villahermosa 1, Abundo 0, Parala 0.

    Quarterscores: 18-20; 30-47; 50-59; 84-80.
