Cebuana Lhuillier and NLEX aim for a sweep of their respective semifinal series today and a much-anticipated rematch in the finals of the 2012 PBA D-League Foundation Cup at the San Juan Gym.
The Gems battle Big Chill in the first game at 2 p.m. while the Road Warriors hope to seal their return to the finals when they play Blackwater at 4 p.m.
Cebuana Lhuillier, the third-seed entering the playoffs, stunned Big Chill, 79-66, in Game 1 behind a masterful execution of their pressing defense and running game in the second half.
Cebuana Lhuillier coach Beaujing Acot is guarding against complacency in Game 2 against the dangerous Big Chill, which gained outright entry into the semifinals by virtue of being the second seed after the eliminations.
“We’ll treat Game 2 as just another game. But we have to play smart and hopefully, we could seal it,” Acot said.
NLEX, meanwhile, defeated Blackwater but not after going through the wringer in the series opener.
Blackwater, though, refused to go down quietly and did not back down until the final minutes.
“Blackwater is the league’s top offensive team. If we don’t shoot well, we’re in trouble that is why we need to emphasize our defense,” said NLEX coach Boyet Fernandez.
