DERULO Accelero finally nailed the elusive first win in the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup, edging Arellano-Air21, 82-75, on Thursday at the Blue Eagle Gym.
Raul Soyud had 22 points, 23 rebounds, five assists, and three blocks as the Oilers won in their seventh game of the conference.
The Oilers joined the developmental league this conference, bringing in the core of the University of the Philippines in the UAAP that went winless in Season 76.
“You have to be patient with the players,” said Derulo Accelero coach Paolo Mendoza. “Although most of the players are from UP, some of them are not from UP kaya may konting dilemma kami sa familiarity. ’Yung schedule rin sa school nila, hindi kami makabuo.”
“But I also told the players that we don’t want to be satisfied with only one win,” Mendoza said.
Clark Bautista added 20 points on 5-of-11 shooting from behind the arc. His back-to-back triples sealed the win as the Oilers grabbed a 73-62 lead with 1:55 left in the game.
The Chiefs’ record now stands at 1-5, while National University-Banco De Oro now occupies the bottom with a 0-5 mark.
Jiovani Jalalon had 17 points while Joshua Webb added 12 points in his debut with Arellano-Air21.
