IN another attempt to claim underdog status, NLEX is now selling the idea that its team is undersized.

The Road Warriors have yet to receive official confirmation from the PBA Developmental League clearing seven-footer Greg Slaughter as of posting time and 6-foot-6 Ian Sangalang is again expected to man the paint when they seek their third successive win against Jose Rizal University.

Road Warriors coach Boyet Fernandez notes that against Jose Rizal University, they face a bevy of big men and it will be a huge challenge for them to keep up without Slaughter in their 2 p.m. encounter in the Aspirants Cup on Tuesday at the Ynares Sports Arena.

“They have big guys who can score, and (6-foot-6 Michael) Miranda and (6-foot-4 Dexter) Maiquez are playing very well,” said Fernandez. “We will have our hands full out there.”

Also on NLEX’s radar are John Lopez (6-3) and Prince Caperal (6-6).

Slaughter, the former Ateneo center, has not been given a go signal to play in the PBA D-League although the league had earlier softened its stance on the Cebuano big man’s case.

Slaughter submitted a certificate re-acquisition/retention of Philippine citizenship from the Bureau of Immigration but the league has not given him a green light until the Bureau of Immigration certifies that the document already issued to the Fil-American is the one applicable to his case.

Slaughter had already taken his oath as a Filipino when he was 17 years old and had played several times for the national team.
